Tic-Tac-Toe Anyone!

This project has been "in progress" for too long, so yesterday I decided it was time to Get 'Er Done!  All I had left to do was quilt and bind the game board.

Please try not to laugh when you look at this.... I'm a beginner free motion machine quilter. Here's the finished Game Board.  

Droppin the feed dogs for the first time, can be intimidating.... also if you don't drop 'em again for 2+ years... it's just like the first time all over again! I'm hoping that I can make several of these sets as Birthday gifts for Nora's classmates... and in the process, I'll get some much needed practice and improve some!

I had left plenty of the backing so that I could use a new finishing technique.  After I was done trimming all the batting I cut the backing to 1.5 larger than my square.

Have you ever heard of this tool?? The Quick Easy Mitered ~ Binding Tool.  It is so simple to use!  When I saw the youtube demonstration, I just knew it would be so handy to have and so I immediately ordered it!

I've used it to bind several small quilts and I love it!!  Wish I'd had this template thingy years ago!  

Besides the fact that this Tic-Tac-Toe Game project was made using recycled jeans and cost ZERO money to make.... and was pretty easy to do... and that Nora and I had a lot of fun working on it together........ Wanna know what my favorite part about these are??

That, they are made from a light denim shirt that was my Daddy's and the dark denim comes from a very old pair of coveralls that he wore to the barn to go feed the cows when I was about the same age as Nora..... :) 
While working on this project I could actually smell my Daddy ♥

and because this is our forcast, I'm 100% sure that Nora's class will be having an INDOOR recess tomorrow so the game set is in her backpack to go with her tomorrow to school :) 

....and moving on to the next project. Set these Star Blocks into ROWS and then into a TOP! 

‎Jo's Country Junction, I have not forgotten about your Hand Me Down quilt project and that once upon a time I pledged to mail you a block to go into your quilt... b/c we had started these around the same time. Hope you don't have yours all set together quite yet. I have the perfect block set aside for you. It has ORANGE in it - so you'll know it was "made in Orange, TX" before we moved to IN. :)

How big is a good sized sofa quilt?

Last week there was chat about what is a good size to make for a "sofa quilt" and I had to share about the one I made and gave to my husband for Christmas as he uses it every night for watching TV on the sofa. Not once has he complained about it not being long enough... ;) so I wanted to share with my friend nancyc20 about it - but I couldn't remember the size...

I came to my blog and looked up all my posts about making the quilt.. but no where did I ever mention the finished size. It was a rainy day when I took this photo so the kitchen floor will have to do... and I can't tell you just how hard it was to SNEAK out the measuring tape to measure it - as all 3 of my children love those things and have to play with them anytime they see them which always leads to them breaking it! Thankfully they didn't see it... or rather "hear" it! ;)

So it measured 63.5" X 75.5" which I think is a perfect size for snuggling on the sofa. ;)

For a few weeks, I had been using my Round Robin Quilt that is square - it is NOT long enough and my feet ocme untucked. :( BUT - thanks to JudyL for surprising me with her gift of "Bingo Whirl" I too now have a perfect size for snuggling on the sofa!

Bingo Whirl finishes at 63" X 81" and now that I've washed it - it feels like it's hugging me as I lay under it! Judy is right about that Mountain Mist quilt batting!!! It's wonderful!

Time to wash!

Just as I started running the water two little helpers cam running to see what it was that I was doing.

"Oh WOOK!" Olivia & Paul Thomas loved seeing all the bubbles!

I was pretty excited about washing it too - I couldn't wait to see how crinkely it would turn out. And I did do a 2nd rince after the washing and of course I added some Downy too! ;)

Ta-Da!! Here it is all finished and Elaine was right - the mistakes did seem to disappear ;)

what a cute quilt - if I do say so myself. Thanks Quilts for Kids for sending me such a cute kit of fabrics to make up this quilt and send back! I Love it and someday a child will too!

and now it's time to fold up and put my quilting gloves away and change my threads... can anyone guess what they are sitting on or how long I've had it?

because I have another project to work on! ;) Stay tuned... JudyL's design wall Monday is tomorrow!
