Is the box better than the toy??

Well according to Olivia, playing while INSIDE a box ranks up there pretty high too! :) Santa brought her this VeggieTales SweetPea Beauty DVD and play castle and she's spent many hours playing with it the last couple weeks. Perhaps being in the box protects her from her brother's random hit and run episodes? ;)

Click the link to see a youTube preview of the movie! It's truly a great message for girls of all ages - that teaches of what true beauty really is... We checked it out from our library many times and have bought it for birthday presents for the girls in Nora's class at school... I'm so happy Santa brought us our own copy to keep!

What's Under Your Needle?

Just a little something I worked on today... guess who's joined Girl Scouts? ;)
As I was sewing them down it made me think of an idea. "What's Under Your Needle?" Perhaps bloggers could take just one simple photograph each week and post and share?
I know JudyL already has a design wall Monday weekly post... and other groups do similar... but this could be as revealing or not as revealing as you wanted it to be... kinda like a sneak peek... ooough "Sneak Peek Sunday" that's sounds catchy... although I like the "What's under your Needle?" too.
oh, never mind me and my ideas - just typing as I think. LOL I can't wait to see Nora dressed up tonight in her uniform for the first time! :)
I'll also share with you that I had to fight back some tears as I rounded those curves and stitched... (rather blink hard and look straight down so they'd fall to the floor) This is one of those times I'd give anything to call my mother up on the phone and share with her about what's going on. She did the same for me, sewing on many badges that I earned in Girl Scouts years ago....... bitter sweet ya know?

They say that somewhere out there it's SNOWING

Snow?? REALLY??? S*N*O*W ??? You mean almost everyone else in the country has some SNOW except for us??? That's not fair! Even with temps in the high 60's, we'll just put on our scarfs and hats that Mimi gave us and pretend it's cold! :P

Don't cha just love how little brother is tippy toeing beside his sister. :) and he's still short.

Before I was at the entrance of our neighborhood I looked in my mirror to find Olivia already fast asleep! and Take a look at little "Nora Look-alike!" Especially when he's looking down...

and I'm glad Nora wasn't with me when I checked the mail today - look what was returned. :( I was sure that the postal workers would see this and forward it on...

I'm really not a puzzel person

However... my Daddy and Step mom love them! Each week when I talk to them on the phone they tell me about their latest puzzle they are working on. A rooster one week, a mountain landscape the next. Never do they work the same one twice. I can't even remember the last time I worked a jig-saw puzzle!!??!? Probably some 20+ years ago???? And I think before Daddy married Clara it was that long or longer since his last puzzle. ;)

However... for me as a quilter - this is my kind of puzzle! :) Over 700 pieces as a matter of fact!

...and ever since Santa was here I've been learning a NEW kind of puzzle...

Paul Thomas' Geo Track system! He already had the train and then Santa brought him the Car's Radiator Springs Set and a few other accessories... and he's not happy until they all "match."

I will have to say I think these are far more challenging than jig-saws or quilting pieces.... that is if you have TWO 3 year old "helpers" who are very anxious to it to be ready to play with. One is busy bringing you pieces (opposite of what you asked for - a straight when you asked for a curve, or vice versa) just as fast as the other is pretending what you've already laid down is a walking track and is making it come undone. :P It's quite an accomplishment when I make it work so that there are no dead-ends b/c of shortage of track pieces... I feel as proud taking this above photo as I do of a finished quilt! :D

That being said... prepare yourselves to maybe see more photos of finished track layouts on my blog in 2011! haha :P

Tuesday's are JAZZ class!

Each week I make sure I'm one of the first few cars in the school carpool line. I have to get there early b/c I have to pick Nora up ASAP so that we can have enough time to get to dance class and get her changed out of her school uniform and into her tights and leotard.

Do you know how sweaty and stinky a 6 year old's feet can be after a day of school!??! Or how hard it can be to get those moist toesies into tights? We've learned that as soon as she gets into the van it works best for us for her to immediately remove her shoes and socks. It give them about 5 minutes to dry out... and that makes getting ready so much easier!

So now instead of wrestling around in the back of the van taking forever to get ready in the nick of time - all the while trying NOT to wake up the twins if they are sleeping.... we end up with about 10 extra minutes to spare before time to go inside!!! Which makes Nora happy b/c it gives her time to play her new Leapster Explorer that Santa brought to her. She is so funny reminding me to make sure I bring it with me on Tuesdays so she can play it!

This was a day that the twins were indeed asleep so I gave her the check for this month and sent her off on her way to class.... I know... she's looking so big isn't she? Why can't I freeze her at this stage and keep her 6 years old forever!??!

After about 20 minutes the twins woke up and Paul Thomas had to go potty, so we went inside. I even tried to take some photos of her dancing.. but my new camera that David bought me for Christmas is totally different than my old one I'm use to and I don't know what settings work best for movement yet... so those turned out a little blurry. sorry.

Not even a minute after I took these and powered off my camera and stuck it back in my pocket before sitting down to hold Olivia who didn't quite get her nap out... the studio door opens and this is what I see right before my chair!

What!!?! How did I miss that!!?!? I was just standing up looking at you thru the window. How did I miss it?!!?!

Her 5th tooth gone... *sigh* I know she's excited about getting some money from the Tooth Fairy b/c she couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the day. :)

And yes, I know it's JANUARY - and my kids are barely dressed... but it's in the mid -to high 60's here this week. In case you hadn't heard... our part of Texas does not have 4 seasons. We only have 2. SUMMER... and ALMOST SUMMER... :)
