Decisions, Decisions..

Remember how a week or so ago I shared that my hometown newspaper in KY is going to do a little write up about my Crayola Quilt Challenge Raffle Quilt and how it's one of 30+ quilts being given away to help raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charity...

Well they emailed saying they need a photo of me with the quilt - so Sunday night I summonsed David into helping me with that task after we got the kids in bed. He grabbed the camera and met me in the sewing/guest bedroom.

He really liked these two of me holding up the quilt... but look at that Blaaaah white wall behind me. :/ and he insisted folding up the bottom so that it showed..? but I'm not liking it.

So after about half-a-dozen snaps & clicks, David was DONE. :/ and nothing he had taken did I like. So after he left I played around some with the pillows and a Rubbermaid tote...

I pulled out a drawer and a stack of paper plates... perfect spot for my camera - now let's see if I can remember how to set the self timer.

Humm... not bad for the first shot. Love how the lighting is hitting the quilt to show up the beautiful quilting... but hate that shirt on me in front of it.. and also how I'm sitting. :/

ok, so those last few are better of me but they don't really show off the beautiful quilting! TOO Bad David gave up on helping me before I thought of this - he could have been there to adjust the quilt when it kept sliding down...

So readers - I want to hear from you - which would you choose to submit to my hometown newspaper??? A photo that is better of me - or better of the quilt?

I'm assuming they will also include a photo of the whole quilt top by it's self too...?

Who dat Silly Momma in the carpool line?

Often I try to show up a little early for the carpool line at Nora's school... and most times I either have a good book to read or a stitchery project but today we drove over following Story Time and all I had to entertain Olivia was my funny faces! :P What's not to love about peek-a-boo!?

But even Olivia was too drowsy to stay awake for my fun. This is typical for our Wednesdays since story time cuts into their nap times, but I really felt the need to switch to the afternoon class with the other moms that I knew.

oh and I forgot to tell you all - that I got my hair cut again! The back is all stacked up - or faded or what ever you call it. I'm sure it will never look as good as it does today so here are some photos I took today to share with my readers.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. Chopping off over 12" in December was fun but now I feel stylish. No highlights for me - all my gray and white is Na-TURL-el! :) I've embraced my gray - or that is what I'm telling myself. Actually I'm just too cheap to have it colored :P

The last pic wasn't going to make the cut for blog worthy... but then I noticed my little boy snoozing behind me :) Awwwwwlll.

Well here's what happened when I rolled down the window to be ready and tell the teachers who I was here to pick up... see I told you it would never look good again!

Locks of Love Donation

While home in KY over Christmas, I started noticing Paul Thomas' hair looking so.... so.... mangy. You know he got a horrible hair cut last time and while it's still not even long enough to comb over on the top - but around the ears and collar it's looking shaggy and uneven on him.

I've also been thinking of cutting some of my length off too! So I decided the week after Christmas that "today was the day" and called the place where Clara goes to get her hair cut often and made appointments for Paul Thomas and I.

David stayed at home with the girls and his mother went with us to watch and keep Paul Thomas during my turn.

He did so great sitting so still - as he has each time before. And this time the girl cutting, Melinda - was a MOM who had a son who was 5 so she was so sweet talking to him the whole time. ;) Too bad she's in KY and we can't use her every time!

Her booth was in a corner and not only did it have the usual mirror in front of the chair but also another one on the wall to the left so he got to watch the whole time. I think he really liked that part ;) What a cute little man ;)

and can you guess how many inches I got taken off??

I'm not for sure but I'm guessing it was between 12-14" Yep at least OVER 12" cut!!?!?!

Yep, I did it! I was getting so tired of all the knotted up tangled mess to comb through after getting out of the shower each day - not to mention all the hair in the drain... or the mouse, as David calls them... :/

still long enough for a "SHORT" pony tail if I need it - and I'm sure I will on the days I don't blow it straight and use my flat iron... I'm really glad I did it!

I plan on mailing it in myself after I get back to Texas.... to Locks of Love and I did a little reading up on it before I went. Here are their official guidelines about donating.

Yep, I love it -here's a photo I took after the first time I washed/dried and styled it myself. ;) I think this will be a great change to my usual ponytail mommy style. :P

If you guessed my crayola quilt, you are correct and I'm soooo excited!

It's hard to believe that where it was mailed from in Maine, they have so much snow on the ground! As here it's been sunny and in the high 70's the last few days! Today was Nora's first time to try out the roller skates that Mamaw and Papaw gave her for Christmas.

She got to try them out while I tried to cut and square up the quilt - trimming away all the excess fabric and batting... Nora was trying to stay safe, skating near the grass in case she had to fall. LOL that was her idea! ;)

Remember the day I posted when I was getting it ready to mail?? ... and mentioned a little something special on the backing side...at that time I wasn't' gonna get it all back out to take a photo = so today I did and this is what I was talking about! ;)

When I bought the fabrics I thought I might get to use it for binding.. but according to the rules it would not be allowed.. so instead, I used some of it to separate the two backing pieces since I don't like it when the patterns do not match up exactly :)

If you are like me - you enjoy closeups of the quilting - and especially this quilt! I just knew Margaret would do an awesome job -especially after she wrote to me and told me she wouldn't charge me any additional for doing customized feathering on it since it is a charity quilt and being rafeled off along with 30+ other quilts to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House organization.

But WOW - OH - WOW - OH - WOW!!! Too bad everyone can't stop by my house to see it in person! Be SURE to CLICK HERE ON THIS LINK AND TAKE A LOOK at her blog too and read what she wrote about working on it.

I'm so glad that she shared sneak peaks with me after she finished quilting it so I could see what she did with it while I waited for it to arrive in the mail!

Now I'm off to go figure out just how many inches of backing I have sewn together - b/c this quilt is BIGGER than I remembered... I may not have enough sea green left! Which will mean a trip to Joanns Sunday after church... oh dear.
